Oh the places I go!
Aka, my week. Aka museum adventures.
Wednesday was good, I went to the Homestead Museum (the one I’d had the volunteer-ship interview for). It went well, the interviewer liked me well enough and said it’s a plus that I’m bilingual, but my current work schedule would be a deterrant if I were to be a tour guide. However, I could be a museum teacher for fourth grade classes that visit. Doable. I should hear back from them next week if they want me for the training. I’ll keep Tumblr posted.
Yesterday, I went with my sister to the DMV in Pomona and I know AMOCA’s (American Museum of Ceramic Art) out there, so we went there after. They have an exhibit there for Pacific Standard Time called “Common Ground”, a focus on contemporary ceramic art in California in the last 40 years. I was excited to see works by Dora de Larios there. She’d been mentioned in the LA Xicano catalogue book, so it was cool to see her pieces there too!
So my Pacific Standard Time exhibit count is up to 6. (The others are “Mapping Another LA” and “Icons of the Invisible” at the Fowler Museum at UCLA, “Mex/LA” at MOLAA, “Radicalization of a 50s Housewife” at UCI’s University Gallery and “Best Kept Secret” at Laguna Art Museum, and now this one).
Next up, I’m going to LACMA tomorrow. It opens at 11am, but I can only stay til 1pm. There are 5 exhibits I want see, among which are “Metropolis II” by Chris Burden, Ai Wei Wei’s statue series of the Chinese zodiac, and “Contested Visions”. Wish me luck in seeing them all in such a short amount of time!
